DexaFit KC: Body Composition, Metabolism, and Fitness Testing
Have you ever wanted to know your body fat percentage? How many calories you burn in a day? Or see yourself as a 3D avatar with precise measurements?
I love Dexafit Kansas City (they have locations nationwide) for fitness testing services. Knowing your body can help you take your health and fitness to the next level.
They offer a variety of services.
Styku 3D Scan
After standing on a platform for one minute, the Styku 3D scan lets you see yourself 360 degrees in 3D. Accurate full body measurements, estimated body composition, and estimated metabolic rate are included in the report. The scan is a better way to track progress since a scale only tells you how much you weigh and not how much fat-muscle you have.
My own scan is below. (I learned not to wear leggings with mesh panels! ha ha)
The report also gives you an estimated basal metabolic weight and lets you program goals to determine a recommended daily calorie intake.
DXA Scan
The DXA Scan is known as the '“gold standard” for the most accurate body composition testing. The scan uses very lose dose radiation to measure your body fat, visceral fat, lean tissue, and bone density. After the scan, which takes less than 10 minutes, you get a detailed printed report and digital report on their app. The report not only tells you your amount of each tissue type, but also exact measurements in different parts of your body. I learned I have more muscle tissue on my right side than my left. This can be useful information when training to prevent any postural imbalances and injury risks. Learning how much visceral fat you have is important due to increased health risk with higher percentages.
Wear fitted workout clothes and no jewelry for the test.
My own report is below.
The app lets you view your body fat percentages by body area (Total, Legs, Arms, Trunk.)
VO2 Max Cardio
Learn your personal target heart rate zones to know which exercise intensity is right for you. Testing is done on a treadmill wearing a face mask and heart rate monitor.
Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR)
You can discover how many calories your body burns at rest and how effective you are at using fat and sugar as fuel. For this test you must avoid exercise for 12 hours and fast for 5 hours. You sit in a chair for 20 minutes while your oxygen consumption is measured.
FitnessGenes, Food Intolerances, Gut Biome
Lab kits are available to test for biomarkers, gut flora, dna. You can learn what you are at risk for, the composition of your gut bacteria, hormones, food sensitivities, nutrient deficiencies, etc. Knowing your body can help you make changes to be the healthiest version of yourself.
The sample can be collected at home then mailed in to the lab.
